our story
Genesis Design founders, Jos Holtzhausen and his wife, Sylvia, have been in full-time ministry for years, first in Youth for Christ and then in Christ’s Hope International. They have always believed in teaching about sexual purity. It was included in all their youth programmes and in the Indepth Discipleship Bible Studies where it was called “Worth Waiting For.” Over time, this developed into a special programme called “Choose to Wait” which was taught using a booklet that is an excellent resource for teens. This in turn, grew into a comprehensive curriculum now called Genesis Design.
Sylvia spent many years teaching Choose to Wait and getting to know the lives and struggles of children, youth and adults. She transformed the rather simplistic “abstain-from-sex-until-marriage” message and developed an in-depth curriculum. It guides all age groups to a correct understanding of God’s purpose and plan for manhood, womanhood, sexuality and marriage found in chapters 1, 2 and 3 of Genesis, the first book of the Bible.
Consequently, in 2012, “Choose to Wait” transitioned to a new name: GENESIS DESIGN, with the tagline “Manhood, Womanhood, Sexuality, Marriage.” Genesis Design teaches us how to build a strong LifeHouse by basing all our choices on 7 BIBLICAL TRUTH FOUNDATIONS about our original design. Our beliefs, traditions and cultural practices are challenged and realigned with the Bible, our ultimate source of truth. We will no longer be confused by half-truths and lies, but be empowered to think, speak and act with confident assurance, no matter what is trending in the ever-changing patterns of popular thought and behaviour.

Learning and practicing the SKILLS that maintain right choices in a fallen world will help us to become independent, godly, single, adult men and women. We then will have the potential for faithful, kind and loving marriages, stable families and happy homes.
THROUGH THE REDEMPTIVE WORK OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST, we are enabled to become CycleBreakers by not repeating the mistakes of the previous generation, and creating our own happy families, thus transforming the next generation.
“But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”
— Joshua 24 : 15
We believe that we must teach children their Genesis Design from a young age, so that we do not end up only doing damage control when they are older. How much better it is to make right choices from the start than to bear the negative consequences of learning from mistakes.
Currently in Genesis Design our focus is producing Biblical, age appropriate lessons for 5 different age groups from 4 to 18 years. As we produce the lessons, they are being field tested by control groups in 7 African countries.
“...at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”
